Brenda Edwards' Heartfelt Tribute: Honoring Son Jamal's Legacy (2026)

A Mother's Tribute: Brenda Edwards' Heartfelt Legacy for Her Son, Jamal

In a moving display of resilience and love, Brenda Edwards, a familiar face on Loose Women, has established a creative community hub in honor of her son, Jamal Edwards, on the fourth anniversary of his untimely passing. This act of selflessness is a powerful testament to her enduring love and a fitting tribute to her son's memory.

A Legacy of Self-Belief

The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust, founded by Brenda and her daughter Tanisha Artman, unveiled its Self Belief Creative Community Hub in West London on February 20th, marking the day Jamal, a renowned DJ and music entrepreneur, left us too soon at the age of 31.

The trust's mission is clear: to "help young people and bring everybody together as a community" and to ensure Jamal's legacy lives on. Brenda admits that her involvement with the trust has been "absolutely pivotal" in her journey of bereavement, describing it as the "driving force" that keeps her going.

"Knowing that I'm carrying on his legacy to support young people gives me an incredible sense of purpose," she shares. "I'm taking his vision and making it a reality, bringing people together as he always wanted."

A Son's Impact

Reflecting on her son's life, Brenda reveals, "It's scary to think it's been four years since we lost him. He's always with me in my thoughts, and I feel his presence every day. It's a daily struggle, but I know he's there, urging me on."

Jamal's impact on the music industry is undeniable. He rose to fame with the launch of SBTV in 2006, a platform that helped launch the careers of numerous UK artists, such as Dave, Jessie J, and Ed Sheeran. He was also an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a charity led by the Prince of Wales, and was awarded an MBE in 2014 for his contributions to music.

Brenda describes her son as "very selfless" and "always thinking of others." She adds, "His selflessness brought him so much joy, and it's taught me a lot about giving back."

A Community Hub for Empowerment

The Self Belief Community Hub is a space dedicated to empowering young people, providing them with the tools to build their futures. According to the trust, the hub will host a range of events focused on creativity, wellbeing, life skills, and employability, offering amenities like music and podcast studios, co-working areas, and a subsidized kitchen serving daily meals.

Brenda explains that the hub is about "uniting the community and offering support." She reveals that Jamal had conceived the concept the year before his passing, and his wishes have guided her in establishing this legacy.

"His letter of wishes, left with his will, is my guiding force. He wanted young people to be at the center of everything I do. His mantra was self-belief, and that legacy will live on."

A Bittersweet Full Circle

Describing the experience as "totally full circle," Brenda shares, "It's a powerful feeling, bittersweet. I know he would have wanted to see this come to life, but I find strength in knowing he's here with me, watching."
